I discovered a new resident of the Green today that I had not stumbled upon before - the Orange (or Spotted) Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis). Although now common in the moist soils along creeks in several parts of Cascadia, I saw only one lone bush in my patch of forest.

It may be good that I have just seen this new jewel for the first time.....as it turns out this species of jewelweed was recently (2018) added to the class C noxious weed list in Washington State. A native from the eastern US, the orange jewelweed is edging out local jewelweed species (as well as other native plants). Alas, I should probably pull it out before it goes to seed.
